SUNSAIL, IN SUPPORT OF THOMSON SPORT, CHALLENGE ANYONE AND EVERYONE TO SAIL A MILE FOR SPORT RELIEF

On Saturday 13^th March 2010, Sunsail, in support of Thomson Sport, will be showing their support for Sport Relief with the first ever Sailing Mile

This year, Thomson Sport has been named as a national sponsor for one of Sport Relief’s celebrity challenges. To offer their support to Thomson Sport’s fundraising efforts, sister company Sunsail will be holding the first ever Sport Relief Sailing Mile in collaboration with Gunwharf Quays and Portsmouth City Council.

On Saturday 13^th March, Sunsail will be taking their fleet of Sunfast 37s down to Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth for the day, to get anyone and everyone sailing a mile for Sport Relief. For those who have never sailed before, it’s a great charity challenge, with Sunsail Skippers volunteering their time to make it possible for everyone to complete their mile. For the more seasoned sailor, it’s a great excuse to get out on the water and raise loads of cash for a good cause.

Sunsail are giving people the opportunity to sail the mile in style with sailing legends Dee Caffari and Mike Golding, through the sailing mile auction. There are four spaces up for auction on each yacht. Just visit www.sunsail.co.uk/sport-relief/auction to place your bid on either Dee or Mike’s yacht and all four spaces could be yours to fill with friends and family.

Sport Relief helps out a lot of disadvantaged people both here in the UK and overseas, and I can’t think of a better way to raise money for them than spending a couple of hours out on the water’, comments, Dee Caffari, MBE.

Gunwharf Quays is the ideal place for the sailing mile to take place, with easy acces from the M27 and a fantastic range of facilities and on-shore amenities for participants to take advantage of on completion of their sailing challenge.

The public can secure a spot on one of the yachts for a minimum donation of just £10, which goes directly to Sport Relief. Alternatively for a donation of £950 you can have the whole yacht for the day, skipper included, to do as you wish… after completing the mile of course. Call 0844 463 6704 visit www.sunsail.co.uk/sport-relief to book your spaces and Sunsail will be in touch to tell you your allotted time, yacht and all other details. If those taking part would like to get sponsored, all they need to do is select the option on their booking and Sunsail we will get a sponsorship form sent straight over.

Sunsail and Gunwharf Quays are donating their resources and operations so you can be sure that every pound donated at the Sailing Mile goes directly to Sport Relief.

RYA Training Courses - 2010 Programme

~ OnWaterTraining.co.uk ~ continues to enjoy a great partnership with Solent Sail.

As an approved RYA training centre Solent Sail offers the full range of RYA practical courses. Traditionally these courses take place over 5 days from Sunday evening until Friday afternoon, but they know it is difficult to justify using a week of your holiday for a sailing course so they have pioneered the weekend option whereby courses take place over 2.5 weekends including one Friday or Monday or even over three weekends.

Their instructors, of which Gordon is one, are chosen for their extensive sailing experience on a range of yachts, their second to none teaching ability and their inter-personal skills and they encourage your feedback to ensure that the high standards are maintained.

Only using high quality yachts, each is loaded with the sort of extra equipment that you want to use when you are chartering. The onboard equipment and supplies include good quality food throughout the course or weekend and plenty of it!
