~ OnWaterTraining.co.uk ~
Each year around 160,000 people attend an RYA course in the UK or overseas and the training programmes are widely regarded to be the best in the world. Whether you take to the water for leisure or are a professional working at sea, there is a course or exam to suit you.
RYA / MCA Yachtmaster Gordon is a qualified RYA Cruising Instructor (Sail) and works on a freelance basis delivering the RYA Cruising Scheme to Day Skipper level as well as the RYA Powerboat Scheme only at established RYA training centres.
If you need a commercially endorsed RYA qualified Yachtmaster Cruising Instructor or Powerboat Instructor to teach at your RYA recognised centre, then please get in touch through the Contact Us page or by calling our mobile number.
For those interested in RYA training courses, as we are not an RYA recognised centre, we can only offer advice regarding RYA Centres based upon our own personal experiences.
The links on Our Colleagues pages are organisations we would personally recommend.
Alternatively contact the RYA directly through the link on the Our Colleagues page.

Marina and Close Quarter Handling Course
Course Duration : 1 day
Close quarter handling for sail or power craft in confined areas - how to avoid the bumps or dents, read the tides and winds and understand their effect on boat handling. Berthing and securing the yacht or motorboat under varied conditions including short handed is covered, as is picking up mooring buoys.
Understand how to get the most out of the boat and conditions to make life easier for you and the crew and of course, how to put the onlookers out of your minds when berthing under pressured conditions..!
Spinnakers - Flying The Kite
Course Duration : 1 day
A one day course that takes the mystery out of Spinnaker handling and use. How to set up the yacht for kite work and allocate deck duties and who does what. Hoisting, trimming, gybing, dipping and snuffing are all covered during the day as well as covering how to smoothly hoist and peel foresails whilst flying the kite to maximise boat speed.
A simple practical day of kite flying.
Preparing for the Mediteranean
Course Duration : 2 days (usually Friday evening to Sunday afternoon)
Does stern to and bows to mooring have you confused...? Need to kow how Lazy Lines work...? What about the easiest ways of picking up moorings...? This two day course offers you the chance,(whether you are Skipper or crew, younger person or adult), to really get to grips with the idiosyncracies of sailing in the Med.
Covering all of the above and more including use of GPS, simple navigation and man overboard drills (for all crew as well as the Skipper), this course is an ideal way to get ready for your flotilla or bareboat holiday cruise. Family groups are very welcome and this offers an 'early' start to your sailing holiday.
Personalised Tuition
For bespoke training, please get in touch for a no obligation discussion. With experience of sailing, cruising and racing, as well as operating powered craft, we can arrange to spend time with you developing the skills, knowledge and experience you feel you need at a time to suit you and your watercraft (or the weather...!).
Please note that all the above courses are offered subject to the weather conditions at the time and the suitability of both the watercraft (if using your own boat) and the experience of the crew onboard.
Groups are more than welcome...!
