The 2010 Round The Island Race - NOW FULLY BOOKED

                        

The fun starts on Thursday evening after 6.00pm where we join our yacht at Gosport. After we get unpacked and have a few beers, we'll chat about the course and the race.

Friday is our race training day in the Solent – practice tacking / gybing / flying the kite as well as work out our start line tactics and programme the nav computer.

We’ll also look at crew jobs as well – see what you like or don’t like doing – although I must add that for berthing, arrivals and departures and across the start until we are well underway in the race, the Skipper shall be helming only due to the massive congestion and number of boats about at the start line – same for if we have the spinnaker flying as, dependant upon the conditions, helming can be tricky with the washing out as well as playful at times…!…Other than that, we shall be rotating roles and tasks so everyone gets to try out all the positions of running a boat whilst racing.

On Friday evening we berth in Cowes and have a few beers, clarify our start times etc and then it’s an early start on Saturday morning where we join the rest of the fleet around the start line ready for our class race to commence…good fun at the start – timing is crucial so it’s all hands on deck and ready to go.  We race all day Saturday and then back to Cowes in the evening for the party…!  On Sunday we have a casual potter about the Solent after breakfast and then back to Gosport for about 4.00pm…

The price of only £365-00 per person includes :-

  • Fully qualified RYA / MCA Yachtmaster Cruising Instructor and an experienced First Mate
  • Berth on the yacht from Thursday evening to Sunday afternoon 
  • Crew shirt embroidered (not printed) with your name and the Round The Island 2008 Logo / yacht name. These are high quality cotton shirts – not cheap T shirts or polo shirts 
  • All race entry fees and racing insurance for the yacht 
  • All meals and provisions whilst on board (we all share the cooking though throughout the day) 
  • All marina fees in Cowes for two nights plus Thursday night if not elsewhere (to be decided by the crew and the weather) 
  • All fuel costs 
  • Life jackets and harnesses 
  • Soft drinks and hot drinks on board 
  • Champagne arrival at Cowes after the race (on deck)

Not included :-

  • Drinks and Meals whilst on shore 
  • Headache tablets for the after race party in Cowes 
  • Water taxi fees 
  • Insurance – personal insurance is down to you…! As is turning off the gas at home, feeding the cat, leaving a note for the milkman etc…

You’ll get the chance to try all roles on board during the race training day on Friday when we practice out in the Solent. If you have never raced before then you will have fun, get to do loads, learn racing tactics and sail trimming and we can race as hard or take it as easy as the whole crew chooses…

We have six spaces available at the price of only £365-00 each including all the above (we can’t put a price on the experience though). 

Discount of 10% is now on offer for returning crew or anyone booking with a deposit before the end of February 2010.

After March 2009, the deposit of 25% is non-refundable but can be 'sold on' if you wish to withdraw providing another crew member takes your place - we usually have a waiting list for berths..!

Sally and I do hope you can join us – having raced in RTI 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 the crew we hosted had an amazing time and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We always finish in the top third of the fleet (once in the top 25%) and always have had fantastic feedback from those participating whether experienced or complete novice sailors.

Berths are first come first served - no experience is necessary as we will have enough experience on board already…!
