A useful list of personal things to bring when sailing...

  • Sailing gloves
  • Waterproof trousers and jacket (jackets that are windstoppers are ideal as the temperature on the water is usually lower)
  • Cap or sunhat, sunglasses (both with retainer) and sunscreen - at least factor 15 and water resistant
  • Travel towel
  • Summer weight sleeping bag and small pillow
  • Clothes to wear onboard whilst sailing (remember we are usually out for 3 or more days and you may get wet so at least one full change)
  • Clothes to wear ashore (jeans are fine but shouldn't be worn at sea and we don't usually dress for dinner or cocktails)
  • Thermal underwear or a spare layer to put on if it gets chilly
  • Non marking gym, runner or deck shoes (e.g. not black soled)
  • Spare socks and underwear
  • Toiletries and any medications you may be on
  • Marine waterproof set if you have them or waterproof trousers and jacket
  • Sea sickness tablets
  • Any small personal items you may want - mobile phones etc. We will be able to charge small mobile phones but no hairdryers, trouser presses etc…!
  • There is very limited storage space onboard, and you will largely live out of your kit bag. It is strongly advised NOT to bring a different outfit for every single day!
  • Please also bring any personal drinks / food you may like - i.e. if you only drink pink champagne or only eat kumquats with your muesli it is unlikely we will have it onboard
  • All clothes should be wicking if close to the skin, and quick drying. Do not wear cotton unless warm and dry conditions.
  • If you have a sailing log book, bring it with you so that you can record the mileage etc.
  • Camera and money - don't bring anything that you cherish or treasure such as expensive jewelery or your favourite teddy bear - both may get damaged or lost
  • Remember no suitcases …storage will be minimal

On any of our courses, trips or experiences, all personal safety equipment, (PSE), including life jackets and harnesses are always provided on every charter, sail or power.

It is expected that all crew members will wear PSE at all times unless it is agreed not to with your Skipper whose word in matters of safety is always final.

With prior notice, waterproofs / oilskins can be hired at a daily rate of £10.00 or £16-00 for a full weekend.
